Add page numbers to a PDF

Stamp page numbers on every page of a PDF. Choose the position, format and starting number, and nothing leaves your browser.

Common questions

  • In any of six places: top or bottom, each at the left, centre or right. The position is measured from the page as it appears on screen, so a landscape page or one stored rotated still gets its number in the corner you picked, the right way up.

Choosing a position and format

Pick any of six positions and one of four formats: a plain number, “Page 3”, “3 / 10” or “Page 3 of 10”. The position is measured from the page as it appears on screen, so a landscape page or one stored rotated still gets its number in the corner you chose, the right way up.

Covers and starting numbers

Leave the first page unnumbered and the count still includes it, so page 2 reads 2 — the same as a word processor's different-first-page setting. To start from another number, such as a chapter that continues from page 41, set Start at.

What it does not do

Numbers are added to the page as new text; existing numbers printed on your pages are left alone. They use a standard font, so they match no particular typeface in your document.
